Kodable
These are further elaborated into learning outcomes:
These pictures and goals have been extracted from the video @ https://www.kodable.com
These goals and lesson plans through Kodable enable teachers to modify and adapt to their planning needs. The program also provides tutorials for teachers and students. Kodable provides logic thinking and the concepts needed in computer programming. It includes a parent section explaining the teaching curriculum, levels for kids, ideas for off-screen games and clear instructions for enabling "guided access" on the iPad, which is a way for parents to ensure kids stay focused on a single task rather than skip
Kodable gives exposure to the language and logic of programming in a fun and inviting way. It empower students with the knowledge for
Value of Kodable for education purposes:
-

Pedagogy / Teaching Practices in the class room?
We have been using Kodable on our iPads both in our classrooms and outdoors. The students have been very responsible with their devices and demonstrating excellent team work, support and advice with one another.
Video example:
Student X tells Mrs Condello, "this is hard, but I am not gonna give up"
Mrs Condello starts recording:
Mrs Condello: "What is making it so hard?"
Student x: "The mini stuff, see, it's all mini stuff. The mini stuff is making it so hard"
Student Y : "Can I have a try?"
Student X: "once I've written this level ok"
Parent Feedback
-
A few parents have down loaded the App on their Personal device. They have found that their children have taken to it by themselves and occasionally ask for help.
-
Easy to learn and pick up on it. Children understand it after a few goes.
-
Characters are fun and colourful and appealing to all ages and gender
-
A great way to introduce a non programmer to the logic of programming
Implications:
-
Some parents reported their child lost interest in the program quickly, yet had not tried the parent tips online to attain their child's interest in the program.
-
Finding time to sit with their child to do this activity with them
Feed back from staff:
-
Our science teacher would like to incorporate this program into her STEM lessons for K-6
-
Kodable is a great tool to use to discuss coding and problem solving. It is a wonderful tool to use as mathematics. I
-
It has brought students together to help advance through the game as well.

What is Kodable?
Kodable is a Coding App for children aged from 4 to 11.The game is a great approach for teaching logical thinking. The story line is about furry aliens, known as Fuzzes whose spaceship crashed in space. They are required to conjure mazes-in the planet Smeeborg.
What purpose does it serve in Educating our students of today?
Through Kodable children are exposed to using "algorithms". step-by-step instructions involved in programming. Kodable has designed the program to track student progress. They have designed lessons that can be adapted to individualised planning. Kodable allows students to understand what is entitled in being a computer scientist. Kodable has designed Computer Science Standards, these are outlined below insix elements, these are:

perseverance
All of these are demonstrated in the video below
To find out more the link programming for kids will provide more information on Kodable.

EXPLANATION NOTES:
As outlined in the Teaching Practices section of this website. Blooms Taxonomy is represented as a hierarchical model. The stages of learning across the top and the colour denoted to that area matches in accordance with SAMR. Multiple Intelligence is a theory by Gardner, applying the principal that learning occurs through 8 areas of intelligence these are highlighted in Green, I am using 7 out of the 8.
These activities link to Early Years Learning Frame work (EYLF) and Australian Curriculum (AC). I have allocated the AC links, however for the EYLF outcomes which apply to digital technologies head to the resource page, titled ‘EYLF OUTCOMES’ these EYLF outcomes contribute to one or more of the following :
-
Outcome 1: children have a strong sense of identity,
-
Outcome 2: children are connected with and contribute to their world: using play to investigate, project and explore new ideas participate with others to solve problems and contribute to group outcomes
-
Outcome 3: children have a strong sense of wellbeing: Demonstrate spatial awareness and orient themselves, moving around and through their environments confidently and safely,
-
Outcome 4: children are confident and involved learners and
-
Outcome 5: children are effective communicators; Children begin to understand how symbols and pattern systems work, Children use information and communication technologies to access information,
